First 'Flash Mob' Marathon in Siberia |
(Flash Mob is a sudden gathering of people at a predetermined location at a predetermined time who perform according to a written script for having fun. Origin: http://www.flashmob.com)

19 September 2003 is the date of the first Flash Mob marathon in Omsk (or the first one in Russia? in the world?)
The marathon saw four successive FM actions: in a CD store, confectionery, pharmacy and a central street. |
The scenario was as follows: in the first three cases, a suddenly shaped queue one by one asked the shop assistants "You got any ABSURD?" (in the CD store) and "You got any ABSINTH?" (in the confectionery and pharmacy.) |
Next, regardless of whatever the reply was, each of the mobbers said "Too bad" and, a straight face, unfolding a newspaper, joined the reading crowd. There followed 3 minutes of phlegmatic reading and then everyone peacefully dispersed in all directions. The FM actions took place each 15 minutes. |
In the last case, before starting to read, unexpectedly, one by one, a straight face again, the mobbers started dancing to the syncopated rhythms of an unaware street drum performer. Reading and scattering once again. Due to the action's multistage character, not everyone involved (roughly more than 30) was there all through the end, but the aim was achieved: the participants had a chance for a few minutes to forget about the gravity of everyday life and (without financial expenditures and further excessive debauchery) to take a rest after the troubled week's work - which is the essence of a Flash Mob action. |
